WW2 camp. (Extra Credit)

The Auschwitz concentration camp complex was the largest of its kind established by the Nazi regime. It included three main camps, all of which deployed incarcerated prisoners at forced labor. One of them also functioned for an extended period as a killing center. The camps were located approximately 37 miles west of Krakow, near the prewar German-Polish border in Upper Silesia, an area that Nazi Germany annexed in 1939 after invading and conquering Poland. The SS authorities established three main camps near the Polish city of Oswiecim: Auschwitz I in May 1940; Auschwitz II (also called Auschwitz-Birkenau) in early 1942; and Auschwitz III (also called Auschwitz-Monowitz) in October 1942.

The Auschwitz concentration camp complex was subordinate to the Inspectorate of Concentration Camps. Until March 1942, the Inspectorate of Concentration Camps was an agency of the SS Main Office, and, from 1941, of the SS Operations Main Office. From March 1942 until the liberation of Auschwitz, the Inspectorate was subordinate to the SS Economic-Administrative Main Office.

In November 1943, the SS decreed that Auschwitz-Birkenau and Auschwitz-Monowitz would become independent concentration camps. The commandant of Auschwitz I remained the SS garrison commander of all SS units assigned to Auschwitz and was considered the senior officer of the three commandants. SS offices for maintaining prisoner records and managing prisoner labor deployment continued to be located and centrally run from Auschwitz I. In November 1944, Auschwitz II was reunified with Auschwitz I. Auschwitz III was renamed Monowitz concentration camp.

Commanders of the Auschwitz concentration camp complex were: SS Lieutenant Colonel Rudolf Hoess from May 1940 until November 1943; SS Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Liebehenschel from November 1943 until mid-May 1944; and SS Major Richard Baer from mid-May 1944 until January 27, 1945. Interview with my grandma (extra credit)

I am doing an interview on my grandma Wanda Cornwell. She is 83 years old. She is from a small town and now lives in Westerville. My grandma never moved through high school.

When my grandma was in high school her best friends name was Wanda Harding because she was very nice and outgoing. Her favorite teacher was Mr. Harding because he was really kind and helpful. One of the people that she looked up to was Ms. Joyce her music teacher because she loved to sing. One of her dreams was to become a singer. Ever since she was a little girl she had a love for music.

She went to a small town school in Batesville, OH. The school she went to was Beuverroll high school. The school colors were blue and yellow. She said that her school was very quiet. "Almost no one ever started a riot."

Next I asked her what she did for fun. She said she would go to athletic events. Or she would play baseball with her friends. She also would go to dances in her town once a month. They would also have potlucks for the town once or twice a month. Then I asked her if she had ever moved to another area of her town and she said "no."

This was an interview on my grandma Wanda Cornwell. She always wanted to sing. Or she wanted to have something to do with music. To this day she wishes that she would have tried to pursue her dreams of being a singer.

Ethnocentric Bias (extra credit)

Ethnocentrism is the belief in which one ethnic group’s ways are superior to another groups. Ethnic means cultural heritage and centrism means central starting point, so in essence ethnocentrism is judging another person’s heritage based on your own limited knowledge of outside culture. Creating false assumptions about others people’s ways based on our own limited experience is an explicit definition of ethnocentrism. These are all definitions for ethnocentrism.

Everyone in the world is ethnocentric and they always will be no matter what you do you can’t change it ever. No one can experience everyone’s culture or get an understanding that someone’s heritage is superior to another’s because we only have limited knowledge of outside customs, beliefs, and ethics. On top of that most people already think of themselves as superior to people in their own culture it’s an even greater thought of superiority against people of other ethnic backgrounds and cultural groups. Another reason we are ethnocentric is that we expect everything to be the same as our culture everywhere and when we see something that appears strange to us, it is more than likely to be completely common for another culture also it goes the other way around as well. The way we see colors, values, time frames, social stature, our beliefs on life and afterlife, as well as how we see the universe are all different based upon our backgrounds and experiences. On to of this different cultures see how you can accomplish lifelong goals in many different ways, some believe you have to be rich to make it big in life while others believe hard work gets you everywhere. These examples help prove that clearly everyone is ethnocentric because you can’t experience everything through our own limited experience.

Final Project

My video is about my favorite NBA player. This video shows many highlights from Danny Granger’s professional career thus far. Danny Granger plays for the Indiana Pacers as a small forward. Most of the highlights from this video are showing his outstanding scoring ability. This video is pretty sweet, and any basketball fan should like it.

This video is all about showing Danny Granger’s offensive success so far in his pro career. Most of the highlights of this video occurred last basketball season, where Danny Granger had an amazing season for the Pacers. He makes a bunch of three point shots as well as a game winning shot against the Phoenix Suns at the end of the video. Danny Granger’s offensive versatility is oftn shown in this clip. During this video you can see how important the fundamentals of the game really are by the way that he uses them.

This video matters to me because when I really started to focus on basketball I wasn’t very good in most people’s opinion often overlooked just as Danny Granger is. He is a great under rated player, which is what I believe I am. I like this video a lot because Danny Granger is my favorite player, and he is where I got my shooting form from. I saw him shoot when I went to a Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Indiana Pacers game a few years ago, and decided I wanted my jump shot to look like his and in my opinion it now does. Also he is not an extrmely athletic basketball player nor the biggest or strongest in his position, which is a similar situation to my own.

This video makes me want to play basketball everytime I watch it. This video in specific has very little affect on my life, but the player in it has made me want to work much harder at basketball and made me realize how important the fundamentals are to the game. Danny Granger has made me realize you don’t have to be the biggest,strongest, or most athletic player on the floor to make something great happen. The biggest affect that I have had from Danny Granger is that I train harder and work to be the very best that I can be with the natural ability that I already have. He inspired me to work hard for what I want and to not let anything get in the way of my dreams.

This video matters to me because it inspired me to work hard for what I want and to not give up. It makes me want to work hard because of the success another person had from hard work. Danny Granger is an amazing basketball player that worked really hard for his dreams and as far as I can tell his work ethic was great and helped him reach his dreams.He helped me have good shooting form just by being a great player that I look up too. My video has had many affects on my life that have shaped the way my life is today.

Tonight. Extra Credit

Tonight was all around pretty good. It started off as me and some friends going to Subway right after school which was fun and tasted great. After that we headed back to the school and messes around with tennis balls and tried to throw them through a hole in a chair, I was the only one who did it. Next we watched the freshman game then listened to music before the JV game. The JV game was about to start, we were warming up and everything felt great. They announced the starting 5 for both teams I went out to start the game. We lost the tip off, and were being killed in the game but we made a decent comeback by halftime. After the halftime we warmed up again and got ready for the 2nd half. It started up and the other team gained a bigger lead no matter how hard we tried. We lost by 12 points. I had 7 points in the game which is low for me. Then I got to dress Varsity, we were losing all game but we tried hard the whole time. I got put in the game in the 4th quarter and I was so nervous. The 2nd offensive possession I was passed the ball by my friend Meach, I took the ball in as hard and fast as i can and made a lay up, I was so excited and lost all nervousness as soon as the shot went in. After the game I went to Chipotle with my girlfriend and that was a great way to end my night even though we lost JV and Varsity.

Wounded knee siege 1973 extra credit

Many years later there was another event at wounded knee, occurring after a program called AIM (American Indian Movement) was created by 200 American Indians community members who came together to fix the issues that were going on everyday in the Indian community. This program was set up in a way that could gain government power and attempt to fix the issues our country has forced upon the Native American Indians. Some of the leaders of this program were Dennis Banks and Clyde Bellecourt. These leaders unknowingly got the worlds attention when they entered the conflict, Siege at Wounded Knee on February 27, 1973. This siege was led by armed American Indians who wanted to take back control of the once Lakota owned land. The US armed forces came into this and it was a battle that the Indians won and reclaimed the land that they had not owned in so many years. They ruled themselves free from government control. After only 71 days though, this siege came to a hault after ove a thousand arrests and many unsolved murders and other crimes. Wounded Knee Creek, is a popular area of historic Native American events and the area of many battles between Native American tribes and the US army against Indians.

Wounded Knee is a Native American massacre that occurred at Wounded Knee Creek on the day of December 29, 1890. The day before the massacre the 7th U.S. Cavalry arrested the village led by Big Foot of the Hunkpapa Sioux Indians. In this arrest there was 350 people, a majority were women and children. The morning of the massacre, Hotchkiss guns were directed at the Wounded Knee Village. Colonel James W. Forsyth had his 500 troops begin to disarm all Indians of anything and everything that could be used as a weapon. All of these items that were able to be used as weapons were put in to a large pile that was guarded by many troops.

The events that probably led to this were the murder of Sitting Bull, which angered the Hunkpapa Sioux Indians as well as the Miniconjou Sioux Indians. They had to leave there reservations and go to the Badlands. The Indians have been oppressed and have to live on reservations that are so different than where they used to live. The buffalo they used to hunt are no longer there so they had to find new ways to get food. The Indians hated what was going on and they looked for any kind of hope that they could find. A Paiute Shaman named Wovoka was that glimpse of hope. He said he was the Messiah and he promised that the Indians would be able to go back to living their old ways once the dead come to earth and meet with the living, and a tidal wave of soil will cover the earth burying all white people. Wovoka made a dance called the ghost dance which was supposed to make this change on earth come sooner than planned. This dance involved wearing ghost shirts that were supposed to stop the bullets from the American’s guns from killing them. This dance scared the white people, which in one case made a military group show up at a reservation to stop any suspected violence from occurring. This arrival of the military support led to the arrest of Sitting Bull, but instead of arresting him, the troops killed him and put Big Foot as the next Indian to arrest or kill. When Big Foot got the news of Sitting Bull’s death he led his tribe south to the Pine Ridge reservation where he sought protection, but on his way there he was stopped by the Army and forced to camp at Wounded Knee Creek, on December 28, 1890. The next morning, the very ill and dying chief Big Foot led his tribe’s men and the army officers in a powwow. Then out of no where there was the sound of a gun going off that started a hail of gunfire from soldier’s rifles and Hotchkiss guns grapeshot’s. As this was occurring many brave Indians ran to grab the weapons that had been taken from them, in a last effort to change the horrible massacre that was occurring right in front of them. While the brave ones tried to fight, the many afraid Indians tried to run only to be killed by the army’s crossfire. Once all the shooting was over, almost 300 Sioux Indians had already been killed including Big Foot, and only 25 soldiers were killed in this massacre. The next day the troops started to clean up the corpses of the massacred, but a blizzard came in and forced them to seize the task for a few days before finishing picking up the dead bodies. This massacre ended all declared Indian wars.

This coming weekend.

This weekend will be great because it is a 3 day weekend. First thing after school Friday I will be getting ready for my basketball game against Fredericktown, that will be a fun game and they have a nice gym. On saturday I have basketball practice and then some more shooting with my trainer after practice. I will shoot for a few hours with some friends from other schools and probably play some 3on3. After that I will head home before heading to see my grandma in the retirement home she just got placed into. She is at a really nice retirement home where, she can have anything she wants. Next I will go out to eat with my family at jakes or chipotle. Hopefully we go to chipotle though because that is my favorite restaurant. After that I will probably stay the night at my friend Drew's house. Then the next day go to church with my family. After that I'll go to work with my friends and play some basketball. Once we get off work we'll go out to eat and hang out. Then I will drive to my girlfriends house to stay the night and hang out the next day. I will go to practice on monday then hang out with some friends to end the weekend. This will be a pretty good 3 day weekend.

This week

This week is different than any other week so far this school year. Today I had very little sleep but felt very awake all day. I had lots of energy at my basketball practice and everything in the practice went great in my opinion. Also for a Monday, today was great, Mondays usually suck. I will be going to bed pretty early tonight compared to yesterday. Tomorrow I will be reviewing for my exams that are coming up this week. After school I will be heading to my basketball trainer with some friends to get warmed up before our game against Centerburg. I plan on our JV team winning our 4th game' and our varsity to win our 1st game of the season. Hopefully I get to play in the varsity game and not just dress. Then Wednesday is the first day of exams, as soon as i get to school I have a 2 hour study hall where I will do any and all make up work I have and just relax before taking my blogging exam and Native American studies exam. Thursday I have 3 exams that I really am not looking forward too. First I have US studies which will be pretty hard, theb right after that I have Spanish which will be easy but overall pretty boring. Then after lunch I have my open notes Biology exam which will be really easy but long. Friday I have world Lit and Geometry which will be short and easy especially after a 2 hour delay.

This weekend

This weekend should be pretty sweet, tomorrow I will go to my basketball trainer in the morning for a few hours, to do some shooting drills, ball handling, and 3on3. That will be a lot of fun for me. After that I will head home and eat some food before I head to Northridge for a basketball game. After that I’ll head to my girlfriend’s house for the rest of the day, we’ll probably go to chipotle or some other restaurant then rent a movie. After that we will probably play some basketball if it is not too cold outside. Then I’ll probably head home and go to bed so I can wake up and go to church. When I go to church, I’ll be at the service early, then I might help with the childrens church service. Next I’ll head to subway for lunch with my friend Meach before we go to work. Meach and I will head to work at mount vernon middle school as score keepers. We will work like all day, but in between games we get to play basketball and hang out as well as get free food from the concession stands. This weekend will be really good, I have nothing hard to do and everything is fun. I am looking forward to this weekend after my basketball game tonight. I also have to write an essay which won’t be too fun but besides that my weekend will deffinately be better than this school week.

Tomorrow will be an amazing day, first of all it's a Friday and I have a basketball game. First when I wake up I am going to make pancakes for my breakfast which is a perfect start to a day. Next I have a really easy test in geometry class. The period after that I have Spanish which is always an easy class. 3rd period I have world lit. which is typically a pretty easy class and it goes by pretty fast. 4th period I have my least favorite class of the day which is Native American Studies, it is just a confusing class that in my opinion is poorly taught and has no flow to it. 5th period I have U.S. studies which is a class I really don't look forward too just because I some how have a bad grade even though it seems like an easy class. 6th period I have Lunch which is great I eat good food and hang out with friends, it is the perfect period in the day. Next I have Biology which is difficult but probably my favorite class because it interests me quite a bit. Last period I have blogging class, where I will be working on raising my grade up to at least a B-. After school I will be getting ready for my JV basketball game. After that I get to play in my first ever Varsity game which has me so excited, I work as hard as I can to be on Varsity and now it is a reality.

My first day of christmas break.

My first day of Christmas break was great, I woke up and went to basketball practice. It was a pretty easy and fun practice that I enjoyed. Next I went home and ate a bunch of pancakes. Pancakes are my favorite breakfast food ever. After I ate I did the dishes and cleaned the table. Next I took a shower so that I'd be ready for the day. I got in my car and drove to Johnstown to see my girlfriend, we hung out at her house for a while then went to her basketball game. Her game was fun to watch and went by pretty fast. After that we went to Chipotle where I met a bunch of her extended family from out of Ohio. Her family was really nice and they seemed to like me. After that we went back to her house and we played the Wii for awhile and then watched a movie and ate some snacks. Once we were done with that we went outside and played some basketball until I had to leave to be home before curfew. I started on my way home and almost ran a red light which scared me, and about 5 minutes later about 4 deer walked out of the woods right in front of me and I had to slam on the brakes to make sure I didn't get in accident from swerving or by hitting a deer.Besides the incidents in the car at the end of the day, I had a pretty great day.

My day after school

After school today I and some friends are going to Subway. I will probably get two subs one with chicken lettuce cheese and mayo, and the other with steak and cheese. I will get a bag of chips and a cookie along with a drink, probably coke. After that I will go put some gas in my car because I am running low on fuel. Next I will drop some of my friends off at school, while me and my friend Drew will go to my basketball trainer and shoot around for a little while. We will probably do some kind of shooting drill or ball handling drill to get us warmed up for our rivalry game tonight at 6 pm. Once we are done shooting, we will head back to the school to get ready to leave on the bus to the other school. WE will sit together on the bus and listen to some music like we always do before away games. Once we get to the game we will go to the locker room and get dressed. After that we will stretch then head out to do our pregame warm-ups. We will do layups and jump shots on the left and right side and then do a 3-2 drill before heading to the locker rooms. Once we go to the locker room the coach will talk to us about the game, then we will head back out onto the court and warm up a little more before game time.

My day so far

Today I accidently slept in an extra 30 minutes so I was rushing to get ready after I woke up. I was super tired and could not get motivated, and then I ate like 3 bowls of cereal and had some orange juice which had me ready for the day. I took a shower and got myself ready for school. I went outside and started my car and left to pick up my friend Beau and I dropped him off at school before I went to school. As soon as I got to school I sat down with my friends Noah, Drew, Matt, and Hayden. I got some breakfast at school and a Capri-sun. Next I walked up stairs to my locker and got all my stuff in my locker so that I could go to Geometry class. When I got there I remembered that I had a test. Luckily I was prepared for this test and I feel that I did pretty well on it. Next period I had Spanish and we learned about what Christmas and New Years are like in Peru. After that I went to world lit which has been interesting the last few days. We have been reading parts of Dante’s Inferno which I find really interesting and good to read. 4th period I had to go to my least favorite class of the day Native American studies. My group and I had to do a huge timeline in class. 5th period I went to U.S. studies and was bored to death. 6th Pd I had lunch and just hung out and talked. 7th Pd I took a hard test in biology but I feel I did well on it. Now I am in 8th period writing this blog.

Gym Class

I think the most important class in school is gym class. In school we are barely ever active and gym class is sometimes the only time kids can be active. Gym class can help with coordination, athleticism, and team-building.
One thing I can’t stand is super uncoordinated people on sports teams. Gym class starting at a young age can build more and more coordination that will help create better high school athletes as well as better, more coordinated teams. Uncoordinated athletes will be more likely to get injured or force us to lose a game that we could have won with better coordination. I was very uncoordinated for a long time and playing different sports in gym class helped me become better coordinated.
Athleticism is probably the best thing that can come from gym class. In gym class if you are always running, jumping, and just being active, your athleticism is going to rise. If you are planning on being a basketball player, playing basketball in gym will help you grasp the game, get more athletic, and increase your skill depending on how hard you play and work.
Gym class helps with team building by making you play sports as a team everyday and learn to work well together with new people. This will help when kids get into Highschool and play on sports teams. Also this will help you work well with people outside of school.
These are my reasons that gym class is the most important class in the whole school system because it helps so many things.

controversy of homosexuality extra credit

There are always people who are all for gay rights and other people cant stand hearing about gay people. People who are for gay rights are typically gay or female, but me personally I think gay people should have the same rights as everyone as long as they are acting the same way in public as the non gay part of the nation. If people want to be gay then they should be allowed too, I think it is kind of gross in my opinion because guy with guy is weird because all I have ever known is heterosexuality. I really don't care if someone is gay as long as they aren't being outwardly homosexual around me. It doesn't bother me in anyway if they aren't being homosexual towards me.

On the other side some people are born into an anti-gay family where it is horribly wrong to be gay. Some people hate gay people so much and that's how fighting and wars start is over hating someone because they are different. Then there is the people who hate gays so much that they even kill or injure them.

Then on the Gay people side, they want to be just like everyone else, they want to marry who they want, date who they want, go where they want, and do what ever they want without fear of being made fun of or hurt or killed.

This is a little bit of the gay controversy.

Basketball game 2!

Tonight my team will be playing in the second game of the season. We lost our first game last week, so I hope we win tonight. As a team we have the ability to win every game we just have to play smarter and better together. Tonight I see us getting an easy win as long as we play together as a team and don't do a lot of stupid single person possessions. Northridge is not an amazing team so we should be able to beat them as long as we don't force things and take what we get. We need to keep our heads in the game because me personally got extremely mad during the last game and forced stupid shots. Last year we lost to this same team because we tried to do things by ourselves instead of as a team. I love basketball and I will put every bit of effort I can into getting us a win and I know a few other players will do the same.

First game tonight

I am so pumped about tonight's game because last year I barely ever got playing time, and I worked my butt off all summer and now I am a starter for JV. In our preview last week I scored 13 points, so I feel I am ready for tonight's game. My whole life is surrounded by basketball and nothing makes me happier, tonight is one of those things I live for. I plan on doing everything I can to get the team the win tonight, I will give it my all from start to finish and play as if it is my last game. I am ready to score at least 10 points and get as many assists and rebounds as I can. I trained all off season for tonight. Game time let's go team!
